Happy Easter! Today we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The resurrection is the most important event in human history. Our entire Christian faith hinges upon it.

Paul puts it bluntly: “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith…if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:14, 17).

Paul devotes all of 1 Corinthians 15 to discussing the resurrection. It is the Bible’s “resurrection chapter.” He reassures us that belief in the resurrection is reasonable. And he gives us hope that one day we too will rise from the dead.

I was privileged to teach this chapter at a local church over the past two months. 1 Corinthians 15 may be significant, but that doesn’t make it easy to understand! It is a long, complicated chapter. Paul’s reasoning and train of thought can be difficult to follow.

So I guided the class through it a few verses at a time. We sought to grasp the basic sense of what Paul was saying. And we reflected on the impressions he gives us about the resurrection. It is these reflections I will be sharing with you in this series.

This experience reminded how significant the resurrection is. It isn’t just something that happened two thousand years ago, or that will happen sometime in the future. For the Christian, it’s a daily reality. Its life-changing power continually flows in and through us as we are transformed into Jesus’ image.
